Selection of bird eggs from Canterbury Museum's collection

Eggshell is frequently found in archaeological sites throughout New Zealand, but its research potential has largely been ignored. This paper attempts to redress this omission.

By reviewing traditional and historical evidence and the known breeding biology of target species identified it has been possible to reconstruct the economic role of bird egg harvesting in Te Waipounamu (South Island).

See the paper in Records of the Canterbury Museum.
