Short Stay Guest: Steven Junil Park

In Residence

Steven's residency took place on 19 and 23 January 2022.

This summer, local artists and artisans will undertake short-term stays at Isolation Hotel.

Steven ParkEach artist will respond to a specially selected taonga (treasure) from the Museum collection, reflecting on historical techniques or the influence of a particular period on their work. Our contemporary creatives will also deliver an artist talk and Q&A. Come by to see their pop-up studio and learn about their process and practice.

Our second Short Stay Guest is Steven Junil Park.

Steven is a multi-disciplinary artist living and working in Ōtautahi. He works under the name '6x4' producing everything under the label himself: clothing, shoes, accessories, furniture, and homeware. His one-off pieces focus on traditional craft techniques and meticulous handwork, often featuring recycled or repurposed materials. As a Korean-born New Zealander he explores ideas of identity and his Korean heritage through his work.

Steven will be in residence at Isolation Hotel on Wednesday 19 January and Sunday 23 January. He'll also join Julia Bradshaw, Senior Curator Human History at the Museum, for a lunchtime talk on Wednesday 26 January.

This event is produced in collaboration with Rekindle.
