A job at Canterbury Museum is a chance to connect with this region’s heritage and to shape its future.

You’ll join a whānau (family) of professionals who are passionate about looking after Canterbury’s taonga (treasures) and our manuhiri (visitors).

Our people have a wide variety of capabilities, ranging from museum-specific skills like object conservation, visitor hosting and exhibition design to IT, security and communications.

Kaimahi (workers) are split between three broad divisions: Collections and Research, Public Engagement and Operations.

Our Collections and Research staff work with the 2.3 million objects we care for, ensuring they are looked after and made accessible to the public.

Our Public Engagement team develops exhibitions and runs our education programmes, visitor services and marketing.

Operations kaimahi focus on finance, security, facilities management, learning and development and numerous other tasks that are vital to keep the Museum ticking over.

We are committed to biculturalism and honouring Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and staff receive training in te reo Māori, tikanga Māori and customer service.

With a major redevelopment of our Rolleston Avenue site on the go, working at Canterbury Museum is more exciting than ever. We have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to shape the future of this venerable institution.

Have you got skills we could use? Check out our job openings.
