Photography in the nineteenth century is often seen as a men's profession, but women contributed to the trade in a number of ways.
They owned studios, took photographs and worked as finishers and retouchers. As consumers, they influenced the way that studios looked and operated, making them into female-friendly spaces.
In this talk, Curator Human History Dr Jill Haley explores the various ways that women shaped the profession, both behind and before the camera.
