Early settlers to Christchurch spent 100 days on board the Charlotte Jane to make, possibly the longest and most gruelling journey of their life. Why did they risk everything they knew to start afresh in the faraway country of New Zealand?

After examining life in England and the push/pull factors influencing people’s choices, students will put themselves in the shoes of the first settlers and experience the journey on board one of the First Four Ships to arrive in Christchurch.
